Saturday Football Review: EPL Weekend Full of Goals
This Saturday’s Premier League match features six teams’ determination, with some aiming to go up in the relegation zone and others aiming to remain in the top spot. Teams such as Newcastle United, Bournemouth, and Tottenham were able to secure a win, while West Ham, Everton, and Luton failed to do the same. Every team was determined to climb to the top of the table in the Premier League, but still, some teams had to settle for draws in the end. Newcastle United 4-3 West Ham A dramatic comeback was made by Newcastle, 4-3, as they faced West Ham in the early Saturday match. Although West Ham had a good start, scoring three unanswered goals following an Isak penalty, Newcastle gave an incredible last-winning game with just 13 minutes remaining. Harvey Barnes served as the key player in the team’s stunning win with a cool finish. They proved that despite struggling with a string of injuries, they are capable of moving into 8th place. This victory will pave the way for Newcastle’s European aspirations, as a defeat would have significantly hampered their chances. Bournemouth 2–1 Everton In a dramatic turn of events, Bournemouth was able to close the game and secure a win in a last-minute victory against Everton. The match was full of intensity with a strong defense, with both teams unable to make a score. Seamus Coleman scored his own goal, which meant Everton had to give up their chance to score and settle for a draw. Although they had scored a late equalizer, this was also due to an error made by Bournemouth’s goalkeeper. This loss deepens Everton’s relegation woes as they remain just three points clear of the drop zone. Everton’s heartbreaking 2-1 defeat led to Bournemouth’s victory. Chelsea 2–2 Burnley In a game hosted by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the match ended with a 2-2 draw. Even though Chelsea started the game strong, they couldn’t continue it until the end. In spite of having much of the ball, the only penalty by Cole Palmer was their only success in the first half. Burnley’s Assignon received a somewhat contentious red card, but Cullen scored for Burnley shortly afterwards and leveled the playing field in the second half. Both teams showcased a strong determination to win, but neither succeeded. Nottingham Forest 1–1 Crystal Palace A Saturday afternoon match features Nottingham Forest as they fight back against Crystal Palace and secure a crucial 1-1 draw in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest were able to lift their team out of the relegation zone with only eight games remaining in the season. Palace did very well in the early minutes of the game, but Forest managed to catch up as their team captain Chris Wood’s second-half header equalized the score and ignited hope for the team. While both teams weren’t able to secure a victory, they both showed exciting games and showed their ability to go up on the spot. Sheffield Utd 3–3 Fulham In a match that happened this Saturday, Sheffield failed to go out of the relegation zone as Fulham made a dramatic comeback. During the first half, Sheffield scored goals, leaving Fulham behind, but despite Fulham being down by two goals in the late second half, they were able to claw their way back for a 3-3 draw. The goal for an equalizer came miraculously from a direct freekick presented by Rodrigo Muniz in injury time. Muniz is on a hot streak, and he has scored goals in eight out of his last eight matches. This game resulted in Sheffield remaining at the bottom of the Premier League. Tottenham 2–1 Luton Tottenham Hotspur came a step closer to a precious final Champions League spot in the Premier League thanks to the late-winning strike by their superstar Son Heung-Min. There was a close encounter against relegation strugglers Luton Town that brought a surprise goal for Luton at the beginning of the match. However, shortly before halftime, Tottenham answered with a deflected shot to tie the score (1-1). The victory was secured when Son scored in the 86th minute, his 15th goal of the season, crossing the goal line. With this win, Tottenham moved up to fourth place, over current Aston Villa, and now has a chance of moving on to the next round of the Champions League.
Midweek Football Preview: Easter EPL Schedule Continues
EPL: Arsenal v Luton In a sporting metaphor where size does not matter, the Gunners, the big guns of the English Premier League, have to battle it out against Luton Town, the team struggling to maintain their place in the league, at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal will surely aim to make up for last week’s draw with Manchester City, and therefore this Thursday they must get a win. Bukayo Saka is expected to play despite a minor injury, while defender Jurrien Timber will remain out. Unlike Luton Town, Burnley FC’s current status is less than ideal. Their most recent game, a loss to Tottenham, has brought them further closer to the relegation zone. Their games, particularly those against the best teams away from Arsenal, stand out since they show the team is likely to win. Luton’s situation worsens when many of their players are injured, making it tougher to win. EPL: Brentford v Brighton Brentford are trying to turn the tide after seven league games without a win, and getting the much-needed victory remains their priority. They will be hoping to finish the job by breaking the unwanted streak against Brighton on Wednesday evening. A last-minute goal from Ajer did just that a few days ago, securing a draw against Manchester United, but they now need a victory to pull away from the bottom of the table. A major concern keeps them busy; they will be playing without Reguilon, whose suspension comes on top of injuries to the likes of Norgaard and Mee. Brighton lost to Liverpool with a breakthrough and haven’t done well on the road recently. They have lost four out of their last five games away from home, and so for Brentford, this may represent an opportunity to get all three points. But on the other hand, Brighton is going to miss some of their top players too—March and Mitoma, to be exact. So with both sides fighting one another, this will be quite a difficult and unpredictable game. EPL: Man City v Aston Villa This coming Wednesday, Manchester City will host Villa at the Etihad Stadium. The defending champions, City, will try to shrug off a draw against Arsenal, which was not a successful result. On the other side, Aston Villa is on the verge of success after a convincing win against Wolves and currently sits safely in fourth place. City will take on the challenge of cashing in the fact that they have not lost on their home ground (a 13-game winning streak) to Villa during the history of their meeting. On the other hand, Villa have an excellent away record this season; their aim will be mainly to strengthen their margin in the race for fourth place. Both sides are eagerly fighting for the needed points in this match; therefore, it won’t be just another game for the Premier League fans. EPL: Liverpool v Sheff Utd Liverpool are in pole position currently after their victory over Brighton, capitalizing on the Gunners draw against City. As the season will soon be over and Jurgen Klopp is moving on, the Reds are just as keen to give him the winning championship trophy as a perfect farewell present. Liverpool’s opponents this midweek are Sheffield United, who are at the bottom of the table. Unlike the Blades, whose match would be an upset, Liverpool, with the league’s second-best offense, is well favored. Together with teammates Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah is set to expose the already shaky defense of Sheffield United. The Blades have a pretty poor record against Liverpool, getting it wrong in most of their encounters. History suggests a resounding victory for Liverpool, who are eager to maintain their current position. EPL: Chelsea v Man Utd The matchup between Chelsea and Manchester United will determine which team will advance closer to Champions League qualification. Chelsea, who are now in 11th place, had to win the match to stay away from the relegation zone next to the top seven. Manchester United, in the sixth position, are also facing challenges; now failure will not be an option. Two weak defenses can become a feast for the best scorers of both teams and lead to a high-scoring game. Chelsea are expected to count on the combination of Palmer and Jackson, while United will rely on Rashford and Hojlund. Surprisingly, Chelsea has had a bad history with United in the last few years, losing the last two games and winning just one of 14 match-ups. There is a high expectation of instant success from both sides in this go-or-break match.
